Police suspect foul play in the disappearance of a 25-year-old Sudbury woman who has been missing since Jan. 25.
Denise Hart left a friend’s house on the evening of Sunday, Jan. 25, police say, and hasn’t been seen since. She was reportedly driving a 2001 Silver Pontiac Grand Am at the time.
The next day, authorities responded to reports of a vehicle fire at the Cornwall Covered Bridge fishing access, where they found the car Hart had been driving fully engulfed in flames.
“Based on the investigation to this point there is a strong indication of foul play,” police said in a release Monday. Last Wednesday, officials from Vermont State Police, the Department of Fish and Wildlife and a U.S. Border Patrol helicopter conducted a search in Sudbury.
Officials encourage anyone with information about the case to contact Vermont State Police at 802-773-9101.
“Specifically,” the release said, “anyone traveling in the area of Swamp Road in the town of Cornwall during the early morning hours of Monday, Jan. 26 between midnight and 2:00 a.m.”
