Dan Marchetti, 34, is the head of school at the Grammar School in Putney. Originally from Connecticut, a national job search landed Marchetti and his family in southern Vermont.
On relocating
"I was really interested in being a head of school, and was on that trajectory. We really wanted to find a place that mirrored our values. Southern Vermont, specifically the Putney/Brattleboro area, fit all of those. This school specifically was the actual draw."
On community
"I can't think of a better place to raise my family. It's not just about the Grammar School, it's about the community that we're in. We're active people, and Putney specifically is a very active town. People are active politically, people are active socially, people are active physically.
"People are engaged in the community. That's something we weren't feeling living in the metro Boston area."

On unplugging
"One of the limitations that took me awhile to adjust to was the lack of cell service and slow bandwidth. While I would love it to be better, I've embraced it in a way that's allowed me to say 'hey, you know, maybe you don't need to be glued to your email and your phone.'"
