Vermont State Police say the principal of the Readsboro Central School is facing fraud and embezzlement charges that include his allegedly taking about $200 in children's lunch money.
Police say 40-year-old Michael W. Heller of Fairfax turned himself in to police on Monday.
Police say that during Heller's two years as principal he applied for and received grants awarded to the school. He allegedly used more than $4,000 of the grant money for his personal use.
Police say that when first questioned by the school board Heller submitted self-manufactured lists of transactions in an attempt to cover his activities, which resulted in the forgery charge.
A phone number in Heller's name was disconnected and he could not be reached for comment.
He's due in court in Bennington later this month.
