Learning How Bears Communicate And Socialize

Chelsea Green Publishing
Kilham's new book, "Out on a Limb: What Black Bears Have Taught Me About Intelligence and Intiution"

For several decades, Ben Kilham has been studying black bears in Northern New Hampshire. In fact, he knows these bears so well that a few even live with Kilham in his home. Among other aspects of his work, Kilham also rehabilitates orphaned black bear cubs, training them to function independently before reintroducing them into the wild.

Vermont Edition spoke with Kilham about his new book "Out on a Limb" and what he's learned about how they communicate and socialize.

Ric was a producer for Vermont Edition and host of the VPR Cafe.
