The Vermont Attorney General's office announced two wins this week in water quality cases stemming from forestry and farming.
An announcement on Thursday from Assistant Attorney General Thea Schwartz said the Washington Superior Court ruled against logger Reginald Riendeau. The court’s injunction forces Riendeau to address water quality issues at his 250-acre logging site in Albany.
The court-ordered injunction (PDF) requires Riendeau to hire a “private forestry consultant” within 10 days who will help him form a plan “to prevent sediment, silt, and any runoff from discharging into waters on the [p]roperty.”
The state announced a second injunction (PDF) Thursday. That court order requires Richard Nelson of Nelson Farms in Derby to improve his farm operations in order to prevent runoff related to dairy production from going into nearby Crystal Brook.
Both court actions were touted as environmental wins by the Attorney General’s office.
