The University of Vermont will extend its early action and spring semester application deadline from Nov. 1 to Nov. 11, due to technical difficulties with the new version of the online Common Application.
UVM Director of Admissions Beth Wiser said the decision was made because the problems were so widely reported:
“Because we’re hearing that the challenges are widespread enough, we did make the decision to give students a bit more time to be able to move past the heavy application deadline," said Wiser. "Because we’re uncertain how the platform will perform around a very heavy usage time."
Wiser said the Common Application, used by over 500 colleges, is the only way to apply to UVM.
Problems have been reported by applicants all over the country. Wiser strongly advises UVM applicants against waiting until the last minute:
“The most important thing is to not wait until the deadline in order to work on the application,” said Wiser.
UVM joins The University of Chicago, Columbia, Duke and Northwestern in extending application deadlines.
Prospective UVM students may also choose to submit an application for the regular application deadline of January 15th.
