A court hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 27 for a Vermont man who is expected to plead guilty to the abduction, sexual assault and killing of his 12-year-old niece Brooke Bennett five years ago.
Michael Jacques who's now 47, is scheduled in court in a plea deal that will spare him the death penalty that had been initially sought by federal prosecutors.
Prosecutors said Friday they will drop their plan to seek the death penalty in exchange for Jacques agreeing to plead guilty to all the charges against him and serving life in prison with no possibility of parole.
