Burlington's Lyric Theater is  gearing up for its 40th anniversary as one of the country’s largest amateur theater organizations.

Lyric Theater is a hybrid organization: part community theater and part small business, with a history that's closely tied to the current success of the Flynn Center For The Performing Arts.

Lyric is now embarking on a capital campaign which includes a benefit concert by Broadway Veteran Kelli O’Hara.

Executive Director Syndy Zook says Lyric benefits from the many local professionals who volunteer for the company's productions.

Zook says the Capital Campaign will move the company toward its goal of having the entire organization under one roof.

VPR's Neal Charnoff talks with Syndy Zook about the past, present and future of Lyric Theater.

Neal was a reporter and VPR's All Things Considered host from 2001 to 2014. He joined VPR in 1996, hosting VPR's jazz programming, including live performances from the VPR studios and the Discover Jazz Festival. Prior to VPR, Neal was a programmer and host for WNCS in Montpelier and WDEV in Waterbury. He holds a B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College.
