Gov. Peter Shumlin's administration is asking for an additional $2 million for the Vermont Veterans Home to cover the facility's projected deficit for the current fiscal year.
The money is needed to help the home cover an expected $3.5 million deficit at the close of the current fiscal year.
Earlier this year Vermont lawmakers provided an additional $1.4 million to help the home with its deficit.
The Bennington facility, Vermont's only state-run residential facility for veterans, has been struggling with its finances for more than a year.
The Bennington Banner reports part of the problem is a low number of residents.
The home has a capacity of 171, but currently there are fewer than 130 residents.
