Vermont officials are lamenting the state's purchase of a building in Essex eight years ago that ended up being sold at a loss of nearly $4 million.
Vermont bought the 680,000 square foot building once owned by IBM from a Burlington-area construction firm. The plan was to have it house state forensics and health labs, as well as a state police barracks and an emergency operations center.
But the Times Argus and Rutland Herald reports that none of those plans ended up working out, and the building was sold earlier this year to a Williston-based developer for $2.4 million.
