State police say someone stole American flags off the town of Stamford’s main street on the Fourth of July.
Officials say the theft was reported Thursday in Stamford, near the Massachusetts line. A resident was untwisting some of the town's flags when it became clear several were missing.
Police say nine flags were stolen and a tenth was found in the road. The flags appeared to have been pulled down from the metal brackets that secured them to utility poles.
Investigators say the flags appear to have been taken in the early morning hours Thursday.
Anyone with information on the missing flags is asked to contact the Vermont State Police.
