Vt. To Discuss Summer Mosquito-Monitoring Plan

Vermont officials are discussing the state's plan for monitoring mosquito activity and responding to mosquito-borne health threats at a public meeting on July 10 in Brandon.

Experts from the Health Department and the Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets will discuss plans for trapping and testing mosquitoes; expanded monitoring for human and animal illness through health care providers and veterinarians; education on preventing mosquito-borne illness; and actions that may be taken based on levels of risk.

Last year, two people from southern Addison and northern Rutland counties died from Eastern Equine Encephalitis, the first time that a human case of EEE had ever been reported in the state. Two horses from the area were also confirmed to have the disease.
