Police Step Up Security For Burlington Marathon

Police in Burlington are increasing security for the KeyBank Vermont City Marathon this weekend.

Police Chief Mike Schirling says the department's thoughts are with the victims and survivors in last month's Boston Marathon bombings. He noted that security for marathons around the world changed on April 15.

Schirling is encouraging participants to call police if they see something suspicious during Sunday's race. They also should not bring bags, backpacks, coolers, packages, or parcels to the race course and finish line areas. If people need to bring anything, it should be in a clear plastic bag.
