Three Vermont towns are going to get a total of $1.8 million from a federal grant to help replace municipal buildings made unusable by flooding from Tropical Storm Irene.
Gov. Peter Shumlin and other administration officials said Monday that the money for Waterbury, Waitsfield and Wilmington is from a Community Development Block Grant targeted for Irene relief.
The town of Waterbury will use a $1 million grant and other funds to build a new municipal complex that also will house the police department, historical society and library.
Waitsfield will get $750,000 to build new town offices. Wilmington will get $68,182 to study six potential sites for the relocation of its police and fire departments.
Tropical Storm Irene did hundreds of millions of dollars in damage in August 2011.
