U.S. Rep. Peter Welch of Vermont is headed to Afghanistan, Pakistan and Turkey.
Welch, a Democrat, left Sunday for the trip as a member of the House Subcommittee on National Security, Homeland Defense and Foreign Operations. It will be his sixth trip to the region since he took office in 2007.
Welch and other lawmakers will be meeting foreign leaders, American diplomats and U.S. soldiers.
He's planning to focus on the progress on ending the war in Afghanistan and the crisis in Syria.
