A broken chair lift at the Sugarbush ski resort stranded more than 100 skiers who had to be evacuated from the lift.
A Sugarbush Resort spokesman says 132 people were stranded when the Heaven's Gate lift came to a halt Saturday afternoon due to a broken flange.
Patrick Brown said the Sugarbush ski patrol used a rope system to get rescue chairs up to skiers and lower people down one at a time.
The ordeal took about two hours. Nobody was injured.
Skier Markell Ripps of Hanover, N.H., told the Burlington Free Press she was a bit nervous during the evacuation process, but that everybody was calm and that resort staff were supportive.
Brown said the stranded skiers will get a free day pass for their troubles.
