West Side Story (1961)

West Side Story (1961)
See West Side Story (1961) on the big screen! Now a classic, this film was a bold reimagining of musical theater when it was first released. Leonard Bernstein's masterful fusion of jazz, operatic vocals, Latin rhythms, and rich symphonic textures paved the way for the genre-mixing we hear in modern musical theater. The screening will be preceded by a pre-show talk given by OCM Artistic Director Douglas Anderson.
This event is part of Opera Company of Middlebury's A BERNSTEIN FESTIVAL - two weeks of films and talks leading up to our mainstage production, THE BERNSTEIN SONGBOOK + TROUBLE IN TAHITI, all in celebration of one of the great American composers, Leonard Bernstein.
