Short-Term Rental Conference takes focus on entrepreneurship, property rights, and the tourism economy

Short-Term Rental Conference takes focus on entrepreneurship, property rights, and the tourism economy

As Vermont lawmakers and municipalities debate new regulations on short-term rentals (STRs), the Vermont Short-Term Rental Alliance (VTSTRA) is gathering homeowners, property managers, business leaders, and policymakers for the annual Vermont Short-Term Rental Conference & Trade Show on March 26-27, 2026 at the Stoweflake Mountain Resort & Spa in Stowe.

This year’s VTSTRA Conference will focus on how legal, well-managed vacation rentals create income opportunities for local entrepreneurs, sustain a wide range of jobs, and direct visitor spending to local businesses.

“Short-term rentals are not just places to stay,” said Julie Marks, Executive Director of VTSTRA. “They are economic engines in our local communities that drive local spending, diversify our visitor capacity, employ Vermonters with high-paying jobs, and help keep rural and seasonal economies viable.”

The VTSTRA Conference features sessions on:
● Building compliant, professional vacation rental management businesses
● Impacts of short-term rentals on Vermont’s economy, housing, and communities
● Responsible operations, safety requirements, and neighbor-friendly practices
● Protecting homeowners’ property rights
● Emerging trends and opportunities in the vacation rental industry

Notable speakers include: Housing Commissioner, Alex Farrell; Tourism Commissioner, Heather Pelham; Senior Property Rights Attorney Robert Thomas Esq. from the Pacific Legal Foundation; and members of the Vermont Small Business Law Center.

“This conference is about strengthening our vacation rental ecosystem responsibly, sustainably, and in ways that benefit not just the Vermonters of today but those we seek to welcome here in the future,” says Marks.

“It’s a wonderful way to share space with fellow owners and collaborators,” adds VTSTRA Board Member, Jenny Dewar. “I thought I knew it all until I attended this conference. I learned more than I could imagine.”
