Montpelier Art Walk at the Vermont Supreme Court Gallery: Rob Hitzig
The Vermont State Curator’s Office presents its first exhibition of 2026 at the Vermont Supreme Court Gallery with Montpelier artist Rob Hitzig, titled Planting Confusion, Sowing Doubt. Hitzig creates two-dimensional large-scale wall sculptures which have taken a fresh direction from the artist’s previous work even though Hitzig’s love of geometry continues to ring throughout this exhibition. Artists often evolve as their art incorporates new and different processes and materials, and Hitzig continues to experiment with works for Planting Confusion, Sowing Doubt by utilizing OSB and MDO plywood, acrylic spray paint, shellac, gesso, and graphite, integrating new biomorphic forms into his geometric shapes that spin off into a new direction that is extremely compelling. When the viewer examines Hitzig’s craftsmanship closely, they discover his extraordinary eye for detail-- born from his former life as a furniture maker. The integration of his brilliant paint colors, new shapes and materials, shines perfectly with each work of art.
“I started thinking about this new series after going to the NYC Armory Show in February 2020 because I saw a couple of artists using OSB and MDO plywood and I fell in love with the material. After five years of contemplating the work, I finally found the resources to execute it properly. I never know exactly what I’m going to do until after I start-- so I have no idea where the series will lead, but I’m excited about the limitless possibilities.” – Rob Hitzig
The exhibition will be shown at the Vermont Supreme Court Gallery from January 9 to March 27 with a Montpelier Art Walk on Friday, February 6 from 4:30 – 7:00 p.m. Artists remarks at 6:00 p.m.
All artist receptions at the Vermont Supreme Court Gallery are free and open to the public.
