My Place: The Philles Records Partnership Story

Courtesy, Joel Najman
Music industry big-wigs Lester Sill and Phil Spector's partnership didn't last long but it did produce the ground-breaking 'Wall of Sound' in popular music.

The early 1960's professional partnership of music industry entrepreneur Lester Sill and record producer Phil Spector was turbulent and short-lived.

The partnership also launched Spector's history-making "Wall of Sound" we know so well in popular music of the era. We will take a closer look at their company, Philles Records, on My Place.

Joel has been a part of Vermont's radio scene since 1964. He began his career at WIPS in Ticonderoga, New York. In 1965, he moved to WFAD in Middlebury, Vermont, where he attended Middlebury College. Over the years, Joel worked at radio stations WJOY, WQCR, WDOT, WDEV and WVAA where he served at various times as Morning Announcer, Program Director and News Director.
