We're talking about the state of financial literacy in Vermont. We'll talk about what Vermonters do and don't know about money and how to address some of the biggest blind spots.

The state of financial literacy in America could use some improvement. How do Vermonters stack up? We're looking at financial literacy in our state.

We'll talk about what experts think are some of Vermonters' most dangerous blind spots when it comes to money. And we'll ask: if we all need more financial education, where and when should we get it?

We’re joined by John Dwyer, president and CEO of New England Federal Credit Union, and by John Pelletier, director of the Center for Financial Literacy at Champlain College.

Also on the program: a conversation about money and politics with investigative reporter and New Yorker staff writer Jane Mayer.

Broadcast on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016 at noon and 7 p.m.

Steve has been with VPR since 1994, first serving as host of VPR’s public affairs program and then as a reporter, based in Central Vermont. Many VPR listeners recognize Steve for his special reports from Iran, providing a glimpse of this country that is usually hidden from the rest of the world. Prior to working with VPR, Steve served as program director for WNCS for 17 years, and also worked as news director for WCVR in Randolph. A graduate of Northern Arizona University, Steve also worked for stations in Phoenix and Tucson before moving to Vermont in 1972. Steve has been honored multiple times with national and regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for his VPR reporting, including a 2011 win for best documentary for his report, Afghanistan's Other War.
