Fore: The State Of Golf In The State

Less Vermont golfers are lining up putts than in the past.

On around 60 plots of land in Vermont, you'll see rolling fairways, rippling swales and manicured berms. They are Vermont's golf courses. But the number of golfers in the state is dropping. Many people only get to see a golf course when they get to hike or cross country ski on those greenswards in the winter months.

We check in on the health of golf in Vermont with Vermont National Country Club General Manager and Director of Golf Zack Wyman, Austin Danforth, sports reporter for the Burlington Free Press and Chris Daly, head golf professional at Ralph Myhre Golf Course in Middlebury

Also on the program, Andrew Loconto of the National Weather Service gives us an explanation of this roller coaster summer weather and what we might expect for the rest of the season.

Broadcast live on Friday, July 15, 2016, at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.

Ric was a producer for Vermont Edition and host of the VPR Cafe.
