Grace Lu, who has just completed Grade 8 at Albert D. Lawton Intermediate School in Essex Junction, says she was inspired to write this song “when some of my friends didn't seem to be my friends anymore.” She wrote the lyrics, plays the piano and sings in the audio version, and made her own video of the song as well, using her camera, a tripod and stop-motion animation.
Sunken Ship
By Grace Lu
Grade 8, Albert D. Lawton Intermediate School, Essex Junction
Sometimes you don't talk to me.
You act as if I were nothing.
Other times you shower me with your love
and tell me I’m your everything.
You used to have my head spinning,
dazed and wondering.
Now I know.
Don’t you dare try to lie.
I can see it in your eyes.
You only love me
when you feel like it.
Though I wanted to commit
to saving our relationship,
I know
that it’s a sunken ship.
Sometimes you are my hater.
You will glare at me for hours.
Other times you are my best supporter,
sending me a bouquet of flowers.
I used to like what was ours,
but it has gone sour.
Now I know.
Don’t you dare try to lie.
I can see it in your eyes.
You only love me
when you feel like it.
Though I wanted to commit
to saving our relationship,
I know
that it’s a sunken ship.
And no matter what you say
or how you try to convey your love,
I know otherwise.
No, you’re not the one for me
if you can’t be what I need.
Don’t you dare try to lie.
I can see it in your eyes.
You only love me
when you feel like it.
Though I wanted to commit
to saving our relationship,
I know
that it’s a sunken ship.
Don’t you dare try to lie.
I can see it in your eyes.
You only love me
when you feel like it.
Though I wanted to commit
to saving our relationship,
I know
that it’s a sunken ship.
