Fall in Vermont means apples. And apples mean apple pie. There's just something about apple pie and fall in Vermont. As the pastor of the Dummerston Church said, "There is such joy in baking apple pies."
"There is such joy in baking apple pies."
If you don't have time (or the talent) to make your own, watch for apple pie sales at Vermont churches. Some of them make hundreds of pies raising money for their church missions. Candace Page, who writes for the Savorvore Section of The Burlington Free Press, visited churches in Charlotte, Dummerston and Rutland. She found that in the process of making money, the pie sales build community.
The VPR Cafe is produced in collaboration with The Burlington Free Press.
