Young Writers Project: Darling

Alexandra Contreras-Montesano

Darling
By Alexandra Contreras-Montesano
Grade Seven, Edmunds Middle School, Burlington

Darling,
You should chew before you swallow those lies,
If you eat them too fast you might throw up.
All those rumors and whispers you spread,
might come roaring out.
Bubbling greed between your eyes,
just take a step back and recognize your disguise.
Adorned in your anger,
and riddled with your brokenness,
Your beautiful gown is no more then just threads.
Darling,
I think we both know where you stand,
Malice and greed in each wrinkled hand.
The tortured words in which you speak,
break peoples spirits with a creak.
I think you like when people part,
reflecting the crumbled remains of your heart.
Darling,
come into my grey arms,
trace the veins,
to the shackles and chains.
Striking again and again in our pain.
Until from your lips drips a stain,
decorated with your rumors, lies, and unforgiving hate.
Darling...
for you I fear it is much too late.
