It’s looking very unlikely that the Legislature will back a bill requiring paid sick leave. House Speaker Shap Smith says there isn’t enough support in the House to pass the legislation so the measure will remain in committee. But backers of the bill are not giving up just yet. Three days into their strike, Chittenden County bus drivers say they have prepared a counter-offer for management. The strike has left thousands of passengers without reliable transportation. And even the union’s supporters hope the labor action ends soon. Vermont lawmakers will be meeting to discuss child custody and regional differences in child abuse casework today. The meeting follows the death of a Poultney toddler last month.
