As the school year winds down, some of Vermont’s seven Head Start Programs are shutting down a few weeks early. Some will be closed all summer. Many have already reduced enrollment, eliminated management positions, and furloughed teachers—and those cuts are likely to deepen next year unless Congress acts on sequestration budget cuts. Retired bus driver Rodger Brassard, of Burlington, says he didn't know he had more than $5-thousand dollars coming from his late mother's life insurance policy. The superintendent of schools for four Chittenden County towns is the 2013 Vermont Superintendent of the Year.
