Eerie encounter? Ghostly tale? Share your favorite scary Vermont stories with VPR and the Vermont Folklife Center.

It’s October. There’s a chill in the air. And VPR is helping the Vermont Folklife Center collect your scary local lore.

Have you ever had an eerie encounter? Do you know a good ghostly yarn? Gather round the campfire this month, and share your scariest Vermont tale.

To submit your story: Email tales@vermontfolklifecenter.org. No written submissions, please! Their team will set up a time to record you, or you can email them a voice memo of yourself telling your tale. (Not sure how to send a voice memo? Find directions from NPR here.)

We hope to feature our favorite submissions in our daily news podcast, The Frequency, near the end of the month.

With permission, submissions will be archived at the Vermont Folklife Center, and may be broadcast as part of VPR's programming. Submission does not guarantee publication. VPR reserves the right to condense your story for clarity and length, and distribute it across VPR's platforms.

Anna worked for Vermont Public from 2019 through 2023 as a reporter and co-host of the daily news podcast, The Frequency.
