Vermont Public Radio has been honored with five first-place regional Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA).
"These awards demonstrate the commitment VPR has to energetic and comprehensive public service," said John Van Hoesen, VPR's chief content officer. "We appreciate this recognition of excellence by the industry; it underscores our responsibility to provide essential and trustworthy news and information for all generations in a time of rapid change."

In all, 13 awards were made in the small market radio category for the region, which includes all of the New England states. Regional winners automatically advance to the national Edward R. Murrow Awards competition, which will be judged in May.
Other award winners in the New England small market radio category included New Hampshire Public Radio, New England Public Radio, WATD in Marshfield, MA, and WCAI on Cape Cod. Other Vermont media to win regional Murrow Awards were WPTZ-TV, which received two awards for coverage of last summer's prison break from Dannemora, New York, and the Burlington Free Press, which won four awards for its video productions and website.
The RTDNA is the world's largest professional organization exclusively serving the electronic news profession, consisting of more than 3,000 news directors, news associates, educators and students. Founded as a grassroots organization in 1946, the association is dedicated to setting standards for newsgathering and reporting. Although news techniques and technologies are constantly changing, RTDNA's commitment to encouraging excellence in the electronic journalism industry remains the same.
