Veteran Vermont reporter Howard Weiss-Tisman has joined Vermont Public Radio as its Southern Vermont Correspondent, covering Windham and southern Windsor counties.
Weiss-Tisman comes to VPR from the Brattleboro Reformer, where he reported for 11 years from most towns in the region. He specializes in statewide issues including education, agriculture, mental health and energy.
“The voices of southern Vermont can be drowned out by what happens in Montpelier and Burlington, and I am looking forward to providing the people down here with a platform to tell their stories,” Weiss-Tisman said. “I have been covering most of the towns in Windham County for more than a decade and I am really looking forward to continuing those relationships as a VPR correspondent.”
News Director John Dillon said that VPR's mission is to provide a broad scope of reporting, covering all corners of the state.

The addition is one of several in recent months as VPR has strengthened its news gathering capacity to serve Vermonters with essential, trusted and in-depth news. Former VPR Morning Edition Producer Melody Bodette now covers Addison and Franklin counties, with an emphasis on the agricultural economy. Montpelier-based investigative reporter Hilary Niles has worked on several data journalism projects this year, including Vermont’s Shadow Budget and continuing coverage of Vermont Health Connect.
