Join Reuben Jackson For A Poetry Jam June 1

VPR
Reuben Jackson

I would love late spring in Vermont (and it was a tad tardy this year, wasn't it?) even if it didn't mean it was time for Burlington's Discover Jazz Festival. But if you are as enthralled with the sound of saxophones as you are with, say, the joy of a maple creemee…well, this is your time of year.

I’m looking forward to taking part in this year’s festival in many ways, and I hope you’ll join me for the ride:

This Friday, May 30 at 8 p.m., you’ll hear an interview and listening session with Linda Little, Managing Director of Discover Jazz. We will listen to and discuss th music of drummer Art Blakey. Three graduates from what is frequently referred to as The University Of Art Blakey - saxophonists Benny Golson, Donald Harrison, and pianist Geoff Keezer - are performing as part of the festival.

On Saturday, May 31 at 5 p.m. at the BCA gallery, I’ll be speaking with filmmaker Alan Roth after a showing of his insightful and moving documentary about the seminal New York Art Quartet The Breath Courses Through Us.

And finally, on Sunday, June 1 at 4:30 p.m., yours truly will lead a poetry writing workshop in which participants - that's you! - will craft original verse, then read it live (I know you can do it!) with musical accompaniment. The two-hour Poetry Jam workshop takes place at Skinny Pancake and is open to ALL creative types.

I look forward to seeing you around during this year’s Burlington Discover Jazz Festival!
