Meet VPR's Digital News Team

We are thrilled to announce the creation of a new digital news team at VPR that will work to expand reporting and production of news for our digital, mobile, and social media audiences.

The team will provide breaking news and enterprise reporting for mobile devices, tablets and at The team also adds opportunities for data analysis of public records, as well as digital maps, apps, and other tools.

The new cross-departmental team has six members:

John Dillon, News Director
John oversees VPR’s digital and broadcast news. A veteran VPR reporter who took on the role of News Director last month, Dillon brings years of journalism experience to the Digital News Team. His climate change reporting has been recognized nationally with an Edward R. Murrow Award. He also has received awards for investigative reporting on an abandoned asbestos mine in northern Vermont, and for reporting on migrant workers on Vermont's dairy farms.

Jonathan Butler, Director Of Digital Services
Jonathan oversees the day-to-day operation, development, and direction of VPR’s digital and mobile platforms and content. He also works with NPR Digital Services and heads VPR's social media efforts. He joined VPR in 2007.

Amy is an award-winning journalist who has worked in print and radio in Vermont since 1991. She has been a VPR contributor since 2007.

Matthew Parrilla, Web Developer

Matt joined VPR in 2013 after learning how to program by launching his own web startup. He studied Physics as an undergraduate at the University of Maryland and moved to Vermont in 2010.

Taylor Dobbs, Digital Reporter
Taylor focuses on digital-first reporting, producing stories for and getting the news out through social media. He joined VPR in September and has already broken a number of stories on the controversy over basing the F-35 fighter jet at Burlington International Airport, and on the local impact of the federal government shutdown. He’s a Vermont native who graduated with a journalism degree from Northeastern University in 2013.

Angela Evancie, Digital Producer
Angela Evancie joins VPR in October. She’ll work with the NPR Local Stories project, where NPR helps to distribute quality local stories, grow audience, and make stations stronger in their communities. Angela is a multi-platform journalist and storyteller whose work has appeared on NPR, This American Life, The New York Times, Vermont Public Radio, North Country Public Radio, among others.

We're excited for this new team to expand VPR’s public service journalism by breaking news and providing in-depth enterprise reporting when and where our audience wants it. Plus, a focus on data analysis will make public information more accessible to Vermonters.

Enhanced digital reporting and production plays a key role in VPR’s new strategic plan, which lays out bold steps to deliver on our mission to provide essential, trusted, and independent news for Vermont and the region. In addition to our digital investment, over the next several years, VPR will expand news coverage to seven days a week, increase its investigative reporting projects, and grow its community news reporting through Public Post.

Michelle leads the team that oversees station branding, marketing, events, communications, and audience services. She joined VPR in 2002.
