Judge rejects Purdue Pharma's opioid settlement that would protect Sackler family

Purdue Pharma, maker of the highly addictive OxyContin, is keeping secret the results of an investigation of the Sacklers. Critics want the findings made public. — A federal judge on Thursday, rejected OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma's bankruptcy settlement of thousands of lawsuits over the opioid epidemic because of a provision that would protect members of the Sackler family from lawsuits.

A federal judge has overturned the $4.5 billion settlement between Purdue Pharma, which makes OxyContin, and the Sackler family, that would have protected the family from litigation of their own.
