PT Farms in North Haverill, New Hampshire is recalling 8,000 pounds of raw meat that may be contaminated with E. coli bacteria.
Fourteen people have gotten sick from E. coli in the New England states from the outbreak. Most of those who have fallen ill are in New Hampshire, but at least one Vermont resident has contracted E. coli from the meat.
Bradley Tompkins, an epidemiologist with the Vermont Department of Health, says Vermonters should be aware of where their ground beef is coming from.
"If people have ground meat in their fridge or freezer, they should be checking it to see if it matches that particular plant number and if it does they should definitely not be eating it" Tompkins says.
Meat to be recalled has the establishment number “M8868” inside the USDA mark of inspection.
E. coli bacteria is potentially deadly.
