A farm in Monkton is one step closer to conservation, thanks to a commitment from the town's select board. The board unanimously approved spending $100,000 to help conserve the 218-acre Cota Farm, on States Prison Hollow Road.
An article posted by the select board on the town website states, "The Selectboard agrees wholeheartedly with the assessment of the Agricultural and Natural Areas Committee that this farm contains some of the best agricultural resources in Monkton and that conserving it agrees with the mission statement of the ANAC committee and the Monkton Town Plan in maintaining an open and vibrant working landscape."
The select board went on to thank committee members for work on town conservation issues and the voters of Monkton "who have repeatedly approved funding for this type of conservation."
The appropriation is conditional upon project approval by the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board and other project financing.
