The Vermont House has given strong tri-partisan support to a plan that calls for an independent review of Vermont Health Connect, the state's health care exchange.
The $400,000 study will evaluate current problems and will include an analysis of whether Vermont should continue to operate its own state-based exchange or join the federal system.
The vote on the proposal was 136 to 5.
Tunbridge Rep. Sarah Buxton said it's critical to have this kind of independent review.
“A thorough analysis of the functionality and long-term sustainability of Vermont Health Connect will be of great value to this body as we fulfill our duty to taxpayers and Vermont health connect users,” Buxton says. “It was worth the wait to ensure this analysis could be adequately funded and answers the important questions for us."
The money for the study will come from job vacancy and program savings from several agencies of state government.
