Vermont’s started the year with a dip in unemployment, down to 3.4 percent in January from December’s rate of 3.5 percent, the state Department of Labor announced Monday.
The state’s unemployment rate remains tied at seventh-lowest in the nation, according to the labor department.
According to seasonally adjusted data, the state gained 2,700 jobs in January, with much of that growth in construction and professional services jobs.
Regionally, the labor department reports that the lowest unemployment is in the White River Junction labor market (3 percent unemployment, not seasonally adjusted) and the highest is north of there in Derby (7.6 percent, not seasonally adjusted).
The news comes after Entergy last week filed official noticethat the company is planning 97 layoffs in May at the shuttered Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant.
