Flooding Across State Forces Evacuations And Road Closures

About two dozen residents of a mobile home park in Lyndonville were evacuated today as flooding closed state and local roads in a number of locations.

Swiftwater rescues teams helped local responders with the Lyndonville evacuation and a number of residents of the park are being sheltered by the Red Cross.

State Emergency Management Director Christopher Herrick says there were also smaller local evacuations in other parts of the state.

There were local and state road closings from Brattleboro to Berkshire, and Herrick says the danger will last through the night.

“It certainly is possible that there could be new areas inundated with water and that’s what we’re going to be keeping an eye on for throughout the night,” says Herrick.

In Montpelier officials say an ice jam on the north branch of the Winooski River gave way early this morning, relieving a flood threat in the downtown business district.

Vermonters are urged to go online to VT-Alert.gov for information on road closings.
