UVM Is Cracking Down On Sanders Canvassing In Campus Dorms

Sen. Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign will no longer be canvassing for support inside the University of Vermont's dorm buildings, which is against the University's solicitation policy.

There's a lot of enthusiasm for Bernie Sanders' Democratic presidential campaign among younger voters.

And students at the University of Vermont in Burlington are "feeling the Bern" in large numbers.

Audio for this piece will be available by approximately 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14.

But due to UVM's solicitation policy, the University is now telling the Sanders campaign to stop canvassing in the UVM dorms.

Hannah Kearns is the editor-in-chief of the Vermont Cynic, UVM's student newspaper. She spoke with VPR about the University's rules, the Sanders campaign's reaction and what's next for students looking to pitch-in on the campaign.

Annie Russell was VPR's Deputy News Director. She came to VPR from NPR's Weekends on All Things Considered and WNYC's On The Media. She is a graduate of Columbia Journalism School.
Alex was a reporter and host of VPR's local All Things Considered. He was also the co-host and co-creator of the VPR program Brave Little State.
