On Thursday, Vermont’s nearly 120,000 Catholics will have a new leader in the state. Bishop Christopher Coyne will be installed as the Tenth Bishop of Burlington at a ceremony in the Queen City.
The 56-year-old brings with him a reputation for social media savvy, and vows to address the church’s sliding popularity and the scars of clergy sexual abuse.
Rocco Palmo first broke the news of Coyne’s appointment on his blog Whispers in the Loggia, where he writes about Catholic Church policy and politics. Palmo spoke with VPR about what Coyne will bring to the job.
