Waitsfield Town Office To Move; Library Eyeing Renovations

With a new Waitsfield Town Office building in the works, the town will be moving out of its temporary space in the basement of the Joslin Memorial Library.

The Waitsfield Town Office is currently located in the basement of the Joslin Memorial Library. But now that a new town office building is in the works, library trustees are thinking about renovations.

The library board of trustees is seeking the town's support in applying for a planning grant through the Vermont Community Development Block Grant program. The town would need to apply for the grant, as per Vermont Community Development Program rules. However, the 25 percent matching funds would come from the library's budget, according to a report Town Administrator Valerie Capels issued to the select board this week.

According to Capels, the proposed project would address accessibility issues, to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The select board decided not to take up the issue at its meeting Monday night. Capels says the topic was postponed until a future meeting, with no action taken.

Updated 1:37 p.m. on Sept. 12, 2014. A previous version of this post incorrectly stated the Town Office moved to the library after Tropical Storm Irene.
