Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger announced Tuesday that he’s chosen Neale Lunderville, who has worked for both Democratic and Republican governors, to serve as the interim head of the Burlington Electric Department.
Lunderville most recently served as CEO of NG Advantage, an industrial natural gas supply company he co-founded in 2012, according to a release from Weinberger’s office. He also worked as administration secretary under Gov. Jim Douglas, and as Irene recovery officer for Gov. Peter Shumlin.
“Neale has distinguished himself as a proven leader and manager in the public sector at the highest levels of state government leading large, complex organizations and efforts in his past roles serving both Governor Shumlin and Governor Douglas,” Weinberger said in a statement.
The Burlington City Council must confirm Lunderville before he can fill the role. Until then, Weinberger named Tom Buckley to serve as acting general manager of the public utility.
Lunderville’s appointment comes a day after the retirement of long time manager Barbara Grimes, who celebrated the city’s success in paying off a bond on its half of the McNeil Generating Station on her final day on the job.
