Investigation Into Shooting Clears Bennington Officer

An investigation into the April 22 shooting of a Bennington man has cleared Bennington Police Sergeant Michael Plusch of any criminal wrongdoing.

Plusch shot 42-year-old Gregory Filo as Filo lunged toward Plusch and another officer with a knife inside the Bennington Police building, according to a release.

"Under the facts of this case, the Attorney General's Office concluded that Sgt. Plusch was reasonable in his belief that he was in imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury when he fired at Gregory Filo," the release said.

According to the release, the Bennington County State's Attorney's office completed a "separate and independent review" of the police investigation and reached the same conclusion.

Filo was taken to a hospital after the shooting and later released.
