Long-Awaited Valley Trail Opens Saturday

Windham Regional Commission / Town of Wilmington
More than five years in the making, the 14-mile Valley Trail between Wilmington and Dover opens this weekend.

This weekend the communities of Wilmington and Dover will celebrate the grand opening of a 14-mile trail network linking their towns. The two towns' bi-town committee has been working on the trails project for over five years. An article on the Town of Wilmington website states:

The Valley Trail connects the resort villages of Wilmington and Dover in southern Vermont. The southern end of the trail is located off Route 9 in Wilmington across from Reardon’s Crossing Bridge, while the northern end terminates at Mount Snow in Dover. Nine trailheads and parking areas along the way and several spurs off the main trail enable users to hike or bike all or part of the trail.

The committee is holding a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Haystack Gatehouse in Wilmington. Guided tours will be offered following the ceremony.

The year-round trail is open to both cyclists and pedestrians. Trail maps are available at the Chamber of Commerce in Wilmington and at the town offices of Wilmington and Dover.
