Flood Closes Morristown Town Clerk's Office

Flooding forced the Town Clerk's Office in Morristown to close on Monday, and the office is likely to remain closed for much of the week. The problem was due to a backed up roof drain, causing water to rain down through the ceiling in the Town Clerk's office.

The Morristown Town Offices are located in the Tegu Building, on Portland Street, in Morrisville. Other town offices in the same building remain open, including the zoning and town administration offices.

Morristown leases the flat-roofed Tegu Building, and this is not the first time the roof drainage system has caused problems. Last month, the town had a ballot item at Town Meeting to purchase another property on Portland Street and build a new building, but the owner pulled that property off the market just prior to the  town-wide vote.

Morristown Zoning Administrator Todd Thomas said the land records, stored in a vault in the Town Clerk's office, are unharmed. Thomas said the office will be closed at least through Wednesday, and possibly longer. He added the electricity has now been restored, and they're working to reopen the office as soon as possible.
