Power is being restored to homes and businesses after an intense storm moved through Vermont during the night.

Green Mountain Power says most of the damage happened in the southern part of the state, with heavy rain, high winds and lightning knocking down trees and power lines.
More than 27,000 customers lost their power by 10 p.m. Wednesday. Green Mountain Power said Thursday morning that number is down to about 9,800.
Crews have been working to restore power, and more crews from out of state are assisting.
