The construction of the Champlain Parkway project in Burlington is a step closer to becoming a reality.
Mayor Miro Weinberger says the city had settled an appeal of an Act 250 land-use permit for the project filed with the state environmental court by the Vermont Railway.
Appeals from three other parties remain pending.
The proposed Parkway would connect the south end of Burlington with Interstate 189. It’s designed to reroute truck traffic from Burlington's South End to the Pine Street corridor and downtown. It has been in the works for nearly half a century.
Among the details of the settlement are that the Vermont Transportation Agency will be responsible if an Englesby Brook culvert fails or needs maintenance under the railroad line.
