Former UVM Police Chief Gary Margolis is going to help create a new center that will promote student safety across the country.
The National Center for Campus Public Safety will be based in Burlington.
Margolis will be setting up the center along with Steven Healy, the former director of Public Safety at Princeton University.
Vermont U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy says the National Center was chartered by Congress earlier this year in the aftermath of recent school shootings.
The center will be a resource for campus police chiefs, directors of public safety, emergency managers and others at the nation's colleges and universities. It will work to improve and expand resources to ensure the safety and security of students and communities.
