The head of a company that prepared a report about the Vermont Veterans Home says there are perceived problems with the administration of the Bennington facility, but it is "fundamentally a good home."
Mike Pulling of Health Care Management Associations told the Vermont Legislature's Joint Fiscal Committee there is distrust and a lack of a communication between the administration and staff at the facility.
The Rutland Herald reports Pulling says a campaign to save the home by the Vermont State Employees Union, which represents employees at the home, has created adverse publicity that helped polarize the environment in the home.
Inspections by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services found deficiencies in the home and it could lose funding.
Officials hope to correct the deficiencies and continue funding.
