Report: Vt Saved $14 Million On Meds Under Health Care Law

Vermont seniors have saved $14 million in prescription drug costs under Medicare changes brought about by the Affordable Care Act of 2010.

That's according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which is using the 48th anniversary of Medicare to highlight the news.

The savings apply to people in the so-called "doughnut hole," between basic and catastrophic coverage, which the Affordable Care Act calls for gradually closing between now and 2020.

The government says that nationally, more than 6.6 million people with Medicare nationally have saved over $7 billion on drugs to date.
